The Eugene Building and Permit Services office combines a complex program, while maintaining a welcoming space. The concept looked at the office as city grid. The clusters of offices became city blocks and the space between became the landscape and avenues.
Creating visually connected city blocks within the office allowed each work group to have a sense of privacy, while balancing security throughout the office. Breaking up the grid with “landscape” the team was able to create a flexible and adaptable office that accommodated many work types.
The reception and intake areas have opened the Eugene Permit and Building Services public side to create a welcoming environment for the community, while keeping the employees safe and connected. The city block concept used throughout has allowed more regular interaction between teams.
